On 29 January 2025, New Vision hosted a blood-borne virus (BBV) testing event at their site on Temple Street, Keighley. The aim of the initiative was to increase engagement and testing amongst current and former clients of the service in the Keighley area.
The event was a collaboration between a number of organisations including New Vision, Airedale General Hospital, the Hepatitis C Trust, and West Yorkshire Liver Care Operational Delivery Network (ODN). A key feature of the day the ODNs mobile clinic vehicle, affectionately known as ‘O-Liver’, which provided space for testing and a visible reminder of the importance of liver care.
To ensure an effective and efficient initiative and minimise waiting times for clients, testing was carried out in two locations. Caroline Martin and Shazia Asif from New Vision conducted testing within the service building, Kay Taylor, peer supporters from the Hepatitis C Trust tested clients onboard ‘O-Liver’. In addition, Simon Taylor from the ODN team attended to raise awareness of the testing and promote the ODN website where patients can find out information about liver care and events in the community.
This event showcased how partnership working between multiple organisations can raise awareness about health in the local community and play a crucial role in tackling blood-borne viruses.
